In a Business Insider article related to seller woes on Ebay, former seller Aaron Bossig stated the following, “I stopped selling on eBay about five years ago because eBay changed its feedback policy to offer no incentive or safety to the seller.” In particular, he noted the company’s change to disallow sellers to leave any negative or neutral feedback for buyers as a reason for his leaving the platform. ” (Johnson, 2021:online).
Also quoted in the article, is cyber security manager and media director Daniel Foley who informs us that, “ . . . if a seller refuses to accept a return request, eBay often resolves the case in the buyer’s favor and compensates for the loss, while account termination, fines, and other restrictions can be imposed on the seller. (Johnson, 2021:online).
The world isn’t black and white and the problems that can arise from seller/buyer misunderstandings is a battle we must fight together. No one should be punished for a simple mistake that often arises from miscommunication. Our personal experience selling on Marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart, & Ebay have left us and other sellers disappointed, and often, with a hole in our pocket. Not only do these Marketplaces take a huge chunk of sales, one mistake can lead to your account being deactivated. The time is up for marketplaces to stop taking advantage of its hard working sellers. It is time for sellers to be taken seriously.
